ANTIQUE OUTBOARD BOAT MOTORS DISPLAY
During the 1950’s, which some might call the heyday of outboard racing, there was an outfit in the town of Quincy, IL that took then new Mercury Outboards and modified them for racing. This small business was called Quincy Welding, and at one time they held most all the boatracing speed records and would show up at racesites with a huge trailer with sometimes as many as 7 boats up on the racks.
Jay Walls from Danville, IN has kept the raceboat trailer up and running and regularly takes it to area races and runs the antique classes at these races. Jay and his son will be displaying the old Quincy Welding trailer this year along with some of their antique raceboats and motors. If you remember seeing the old 2 cylinder opposed racing motors along with their big brothers, (the mighty Evinrude 460’s) at races right here on White River, then come see these old racing rigs at the Indianapolis Boat, Sport and Travel Show.
The Walls family has been avid collectors of old outboard motors since the 1960’s and will also be displaying many motors manufactured in the very early 1900’s. One such boat and motor combination could be the oldest displayed at an event like this in modern times.
Jay Walls says there are several local Antique Outboard Motor Club members who will help by displaying some of their motors and will be at the booth to talk outboarding the way it was 100 years ago. Walls says since this is 2009 it is the 100 year celebration of Evinrude being in the Outboarding business, so they will have very early Evinrudes on display. Come see the way outboarding started.

NEW BIKE BUILDERS SQUARE
Check out the NEW Bike Builders Square at the Moto Expo! Four of the top bike builders in the country will display their talents and be on hand to answer any questions. These experts will also be the judges for the Lucas Oil Bikers Showcase Contest.
Paul Wideman was like a lot of other guys in the motorcycle business, growing up around his dad's bikes and being a gearhead from day one. Early in his 20's he purchased his first bike, a 1957 Sportster. It didn't take long for Paul to realize that cool chopper parts have to be hand made. During this first build he used his welding and machining skills and figured he could make a buck or two doing what he loved. While working in a small independent shop for a few years, Paul built his first frame jig in his home shop. Not long thereafter, Paul opened Bare Knuckle Choppers, and has been making stripped down, all business choppers ever since. He has a killer crew behind him including his dad and some other very talented chopper riders.
Jeff Hill has been building bikes since the early 80's, working for other shops. His shop Hill's Performance in Ney Ohio (between Toledo Ohio and Fort Wayne Indiana) has been open since 1992. He specializes in complete builds, fabrication (including sheet metal, exhaust and one off handlebars) service and repair. His work can be seen at www.hillsperformance.com
Phil Hoffman got into Harleys right out of the Marine Corps in 1979. He and his wife started their bike building careers by building award winning Panheads. They decided to take their interest in bike building to the next level. Together they started Black Magic Customs, Inc. in 2000. They are known for their restorations in the motorcycle industry. They have had many motorcycles featured in major magazines. Black Magic is a full service shop and is located in Sandwich, Illinois.
Andy Boersma graduated from Indiana University and MMI and started his career working for dealerships around the country for the next 10 years. In the spring of 2003 he opened Kalamazoo Choppers. They specialize in Harley service and maintenance and parts and accessories. Clean and simple is Andy’s style. Because he is a mechanic, he builds bikes that are meant to be simple to work on.
